3M Products for Woodworking
There is something uniquely alluring about handcrafted furniture and cabinets. Whether it’s an industrial office or front-and-center in your family’s kitchen, well-crafted wooden furniture recalls the artistry of antiques long forgotten or the simple craftsmanship of values from decades gone by. The gorgeous look and feel of wooden furniture used to take painstaking efforts and time to complete. Today, modern adhesive options streamline the attachment and bonding process to make mass production and artisan remodeling or furniture making more accessible. DIY enthusiasts will speed through projects that require molding or detail work while commercial builders will see an increase in efficiency with a dip in costs.
From 3M’s aerosol adhesive family to its robust hot melts found in the Scotch-Weld line of products, the company offers a wide range of adhesive products that can do it all.
3M Scotch-Weld Adhesives
The Scotch-Weld Adhesives provide the most variety and versatility for your projects. Installing wall partitions? No problem. How about reinforcing and stiffening wooden drawers? You bet. 3M’s lightweight DP100 epoxy is one of the most popular products on the market, with a 1:1 formula that boasts a 3-5 minute working time and 20 minute handling time. The 3M epoxy has a low viscosity that makes it easy to work with and a great option for woodwork. Other options for large scale projects such as base blocks or decorative shelving include the Scotch-Weld EZ250120 Polyurethane Reactive (PUR) Easy Adhesive, which is perfect for wood projects thanks to its medium set and four-minute open time.
3M Aerosol Adhesives
Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about the crafters or those delicate wooden and fabric projects. 3M offers two world-class adhesive sprays that are ideal for projects requiring a smooth finish without fear of dimpling glue lines. The 3M Hi-Strength 90 Spray Adhesive offers industrial-strength hold that can bond almost anything from carpet to foil and foam to a solid wooden base. This is perfect for furniture finishing and floor work. Last but not least, the 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Spray Adhesive is the “catch-all” adhesive option. The product has been around for over 50 years and is one of the brand’s most popular adhesives. Enough said. Make sure to check out all of our sprayable adhesives.
3M Glue Sticks
For woodworking projects, one of our favorite types of adhesive applications is hot melt glue sticks. Hot melt glue sticks come in a wide variety of formulas and 3M has a product for almost all substrates and application types. An all-around glue that is great for bonding wood and plastic is the 3M 3792 General Purpose Glue Sticks. It is impact-resistant regardless of temperature, and with almost a minute of bonding range, you get plenty of time to put parts together. For jobs that require a more delicate approach, check out the 3M 3792 LM Low Melt Glue Sticks. This adhesive is designed to deliver a cooler bond to heat-sensitive materials. For a tan glue, best suited for projects involving foundry sand cores, chipboard, and corrugated materials the 3M 3738 Glue Sticks is best. Some other tan-colored hot melts that can be used for woodworking are the 3M 3747 Glue Sticks for general-purpose tasks and the 3M 3789 Polyamide Glue Sticks designed for plastics and other difficult substrates.
Glue Guns
When it comes to applying glue, 3M offers some of the most popular equipment in the industry. One of our most basic and easy to use 3M glue gun is the 3M AE II Glue Gun, it comes in both high and low temperature versions and is great for basic projects. For slightly more heavy-duty applications, 3M TC Glue Gun with Quadrack Converter is your gun. The Quadrack Converter saves you from hand cramps by including a palm trigger. You can dispense a lot of glue with this product, but there is a catch: Once you are using the Quadrack, you have to use ridged 5/8" X 8" glue sticks. For industrial applications where you need to apply a lot of gue in a short amount of time, check out the 3M Polygun EC Glue Gun. It’s a great lower-cost option compared to a full-priced pneumatic glue gun. It can handle low and high temperatures and is perfect for product assembly projects.
