When to Use a Low Temperature Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
A low temperature glue gun is necessary when you are using a low temp glue stick, but some brands do carry all-temperature glue sticks that work in both standard and low temp hot glue guns.
Low temperature glue gun sticks may be recommended when you are working with heat-sensitive materials including foam, fabric, or thin films/plastics. The lower heat greatly reduces the chance of damaging these materials during application while still getting a good bond. As a result, low temperature glue sticks are often used for foam bonding, floral crafts, arts and crafts, mattress manufacturing, and casket manufacturing. Although, cardboard and card stock isn't necessarily temperature sensitive, there are numerous low temperature packaging glue sticks on the market as well.
Are There Other Options for Bonding Heat-Sensitive Materials?
Besides using a low temp glue gun, pneumatic spray guns may be another option. They tend to have success with numerous foams, fabrics and other heat-sensitive materials because they cool quickly after being dispensed. Always check a product's technical datasheet to ensure it can be used on your substrate materials, and test a small piece before unrolling it into your full production line.
