Acrylic adhesives and MMA adhesives are essentially the same thing, and the terms are often used interchangeably. Technically, MMAs are just a type of acrylic adhesive.
Acrylic-based glues can replace welding, bolts, rivets, and traditional mechanical fasteners. They have a diverse number of properties and therefore have a variety of applications. Because of their great strength, they are often used in the structural bonding of robust materials, but they can also be used on thinner substrates. They are readily used in the automotive, marine, aerospace, and construction industries.
Once fully cured, many acrylic glues and adhesives are waterproof or water-resistant. As a group, they also tend to be impact and weather-resistant. These properties make them great for outdoor use. While an acrylic adhesive may be waterproof, it may not be able to be submerged for long periods and may not be suitable for below-the-waterline applications.
