Polyurethane hot melt, more commonly known as PUR, is an adhesive that shares many characteristics of traditional glue sticks and bulk hot melt. That said, PUR hot melt is not dispensed in a traditional glue gun and can offer some additional bonding attributes that may fit applications that require a stronger bond or higher endurance to the elements.
PUR is dispensed with a PUR glue gun and can come in a range of cartridge sizes including 50 gram, 10oz, 5 gallon pails and for the largest applications totes or tankers. PUR hot melts offer a very strong initial bond and after the adhesive sets, polyurethane hot melt bonds continue to strengthen as they react with moisture in the air. This chemical process known as cross linking is the biggest difference between PUR hot melt and traditional hot melts in stick form.
Aside from stronger bond strength, PUR can offer a more exact and longer open time than traditional hot melts. Common open times are 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 seconds.
