FAQs About Silicone Adhesives & Sealants
Silicone sealants are a liquid form of adhesives often used to fill gaps and seal surfaces in order to prevent the passage of air, water, dust, or other unwanted substances. Typically made from heat and weather-resistant silicone, they are useful for applications within the construction and automotive industries, as well as for use in household repairs.
Silicone sealants are considered better than other sealants due to their durability, flexibility, non-toxicity, versatility, and ease of use. They can be used on a variety of substrates and are resistant to weathering, UV radiation, and temperature changes.
Take the following steps to remove silicone sealants:
Soften the sealant with a silicone sealant remover, a hairdryer, or a heat gun.
Scrape away the softened sealant using a scraper or putty knife.
Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol, vinegar, or soap and water to remove any residue.
Always wear gloves and eye protection when using chemicals, and be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
