On February 9, a Parker Lord plant caught fire and exploded in Saegertown, Pennsylvania. Parker Lord is a well-known manufacturer of adhesives, coatings, thermal management materials, and equipment for the automotive, aerospace, and industrial industries. According to reports, local firefighters were called to the scene of the Parker Lord plant from an automatic alarm early in the morning. Several eyewitnesses reported smoke and the sound of an explosion. While a dozen people were hospitalized, sources suggested this was mostly precautionary and everyone was released by the next day. The damage to the Parker Lord plant also suspended its operations.
Parker Lord Adhesive Shortages
Now about a month after the Parker Lord warehouse explosion, we are seeing more of the effects of the aftermath. In this time, our team has observed what appears to be a shortage of Lord adhesives.
With the damage to the Parker Lord adhesives plant and the suspension of its operation, there seems to be a limited supply of some of the company's products. We are seeing customers complaining about extended lead times or being unable to secure certain products.
For some customers, this has led to a bit of panic as they need these adhesives sooner rather than later to avoid unnecessary downtime in their operations. Fortunately, we may be able to help address some of the Lord acrylic adhesive shortages.
How to Find Lord Adhesives After the Fire
At Gluegun.com, we carry a wide selection of Lord adhesive alternatives. These products are very similar in their chemistry and properties to the Lord products and should work just as well or even better in many applications. In some cases, these products may even be cheaper than the comparable Lord adhesive.
For example, LORD® 201/19 is one such product that we have observed what appears to be an increased demand for since the fire at the Parker Lord plant. Fortunately, we have an alternative product available for purchase, Infinity Bond MMA 300. Like the LORD 201/19 adhesive, it is commonly used to create strong bonds to metals, plastics, and ceramics. It has a high resistance to heat, cold, and weather, including the ability to withstand thermal cycling. With these characteristics, it can be used in similar applications as the LORD 201/19 product involving harsh conditions. Even better, the Infinity Bond alternative tends to be cheaper than the LORD 2019/19 glue.
Besides just the LORD 201/19 acrylic adhesive, we also have alternatives for several other Lord products whose production may have been interrupted by the plant explosion. Some of these adhesives include:
